Supportive Therapies for Health, Recovery & Wellness
Pivotal Health was founded and organized by Dr. Carolyn Graham, ND, RN, to provide access to specialized, non-invasive therapies that can support health, recovery, physical function, and overall well-being.
Drawing upon her many years in healthcare and her background in naturopathic, functional, and environmental medicine, Dr. Graham sought out technologies that could provide additional ways to support the body and complement an individualized approach to health.
Pivotal Health is a separate self-pay wellness business located within Naturopathic Health Center. Services provided through Pivotal Health are separate from naturopathic medical services provided by Naturopathic Health Center and are not billed to health insurance.
Therapies Available Through Pivotal Health
PEMF Therapy • Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy • Infrared Sauna Therapy • Whole-Body Vibration
Each therapy works differently. Below you can learn what each therapy is, its potential benefits, and when it might be considered.
The photographs on this page show the actual equipment and treatment areas available through Pivotal Health.
What Is PEMF Therapy?
PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. It uses controlled pulses of electromagnetic energy that pass non-invasively through the body and interact with tissues.
Our SANZA PEMF system allows treatment programs to be selected based upon the individual and the purpose of the session. Treatment is comfortable, requires no physical exertion, and allows you to simply relax during the session.
Potential Benefits
PEMF therapy may help support:
- Healthy circulation and microcirculation
- Cellular activity and energy production
- Muscle and tissue recovery
- Joint and muscle comfort
- Relaxation
- Recovery following physical activity
- General energy and well-being
When Might PEMF Be Considered?
PEMF may be considered for people experiencing muscle or joint discomfort, stiffness, physical overuse, slow recovery, fatigue, or reduced circulation.
It may also be incorporated as a supportive therapy for selected individuals with chronic or complex health concerns or for those simply interested in supporting recovery and healthy aging.
What Is Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves relaxing inside a specially designed chamber in which the atmospheric pressure is gently increased.
The increased pressure allows oxygen to dissolve more readily into the body’s fluids and helps increase oxygen availability to tissues.
Oxygen is essential for cellular energy production and normal tissue function, which is why improving oxygen delivery is of interest in recovery and wellness.
Potential Benefits
mHBOT may help support:
- Tissue oxygenation
- Circulation
- Cellular energy production
- Brain and neurological function
- Physical recovery
- Normal tissue repair
- A healthy inflammatory response
- Energy and mental clarity
What Is Infrared Sauna Therapy?
Infrared sauna uses wavelengths of infrared energy to warm the body more directly than a traditional sauna, which primarily heats the surrounding air.
As the body warms, circulation increases and perspiration occurs.
Sweating is a normal physiological process involved in temperature regulation and can also contribute to the elimination of certain substances from the body.
Potential Benefits
Infrared sauna therapy may help support:
- Healthy circulation
- Perspiration
- Relaxation and stress reduction
- Muscle relaxation
- Joint and muscle comfort
- Recovery following exercise
- Cardiovascular conditioning
- General well-being
Infrared sauna may also be incorporated into a broader environmental health or detoxification program when appropriate.
When Might mHBOT Be Considered?
Mild hyperbaric therapy may be considered as supportive care for individuals dealing with slow recovery, fatigue, brain fog, physical injury or overuse, neurological concerns, or chronic and complex health challenges.
It may also be considered by people interested in supporting recovery, cognitive performance, and overall wellness.
Because hyperbaric therapy is not appropriate for everyone, individuals are screened for possible contraindications before beginning treatment.
Sunlighten Infrared Sauna
When Might Infrared Sauna Be Considered?
Infrared sauna may be considered for people interested in support for muscle tension, stiffness, stress, physical recovery, circulation, environmental health, healthy aging, or general wellness.
Because heat exposure is not appropriate for everyone, individuals with certain medical conditions or difficulty regulating blood pressure should discuss sauna use with their healthcare provider.
What Is Whole-Body Vibration?
Whole-body vibration uses a specialized platform that produces rapid mechanical vibrations.
When you stand or perform simple movements on the platform, the vibrations stimulate repeated muscle contractions throughout the body. This allows multiple muscle groups to be activated without the impact or exertion associated with many forms of conventional exercise.
Sessions can be adjusted according to the individual’s physical condition and ability.
Potential Benefits
Whole-body vibration may help support:
- Muscle activation and strength
- Balance and stability
- Coordination
- Circulation
- Flexibility and mobility
- Bone health
- Physical conditioning
- Maintenance of physical function
When Might Whole-Body Vibration Be Considered?
Whole-body vibration may be particularly useful for older adults, individuals who have become deconditioned, people with limited ability to exercise, those interested in maintaining muscle and bone health, or individuals working to improve balance and mobility.
It can also be used by active individuals as part of a conditioning or recovery program.
Different Therapies. Different Ways of Supporting the Body.
The therapies offered through Pivotal Health don’t all do the same thing.
PEMF uses pulsed electromagnetic fields to interact with tissues and support cellular and physical recovery.
Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy uses increased atmospheric pressure to increase oxygen availability.
Infrared Sauna uses infrared energy and heat to promote circulation, relaxation, and perspiration.
Whole-Body Vibration uses mechanical stimulation to activate muscles and support strength, balance, circulation, and mobility.
One therapy may be appropriate for one person, while another may benefit from a different approach.
The goal isn’t to use more therapies. It is to choose the therapy that makes sense for you.
Support for Chronic & Complex Health Concerns
Some individuals use Pivotal Health therapies as part of a broader plan for chronic or complex health concerns.
Depending upon the individual, supportive therapies may be considered alongside medical or naturopathic care for people dealing with chronic fatigue, persistent pain, recovery from illness, environmental health concerns, tick-borne illness, neurological concerns, or other chronic health challenges.
These therapies are intended to support health and recovery and are not a replacement for appropriate medical evaluation or treatment.
